On 28 June 2025, C4 Center CEO Pushpan Murugiah and Policy & Legal Research Officer Prishanth Linggaraj attended and addressed the crowd at the Himpunan Rakyat Benci Rasuah 2.0 protest in Kuala Lumpur. The rally was organised by the Sekretariat Rakyat Benci Rasuah (SRBR), a coalition of NGOs and university student groups, as a continuation of their earlier anti-corruption mobilisations aimed at renewing pressure on the Madani government to fulfil its reform pledges. Protesters gathered at Sogo at 2:30 PM and marched to Dataran Merdeka, carrying placards and chanting calls for institutional reform.
The protest centred on several key demands: the separation of powers between the Attorney General and the Prime Minister’s Office, autonomy for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the introduction of a Political Financing Act, and accountability in unresolved corruption and custodial death cases. Among the speakers were student leaders and SRBR representatives, who voiced frustration over the government’s perceived delay in implementing promised anti-corruption reforms.
The rally remained largely peaceful, although tensions briefly escalated during a performance act when police intervened and a participant was allegedly injured. SRBR condemned the incident, citing it as an infringement on the right to peaceful assembly. The protest served as a reminder of continued civil society pressure for meaningful structural change and reaffirmed the public’s growing discontent with the slow pace of governance reform in Malaysia.
