“What we are missing, utterly and completely, in this government is accountability. Public Institutions must lead the way!”
The Centre to Combat Corruption & Cronyism (C4), welcomes the announcement by Datuk Nur Jazlan, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in carrying out an independent probe on the controversial dealings of the 1 MDB.
According to reports, past and present leaders of the 1MDB will be called in to testify. Making his plans for PAC known to the public, is the first step towards real transparency. Transparency in turn breeds accountability and accountability is the bedrock of good governance.
As a body that works to influence public policy towards greater open governance C4 urges
1. That the scope of the PAC probe on the 1MDB be clarified and published. This is crucial to level off expectations, against the Auditor Generals investigations.
2. The PAC probe on the 1MDB be open to the public. This will set unprecedented levels of openness, elevate civic consciousness, and foster greater participation in public administration affairs in this country.
We need to urgently rebuild our nation’s honour and inspire public confidence once again.
