Selangor's Water Deal: Disclose details, Declassify MOU

SELANGOR”s water deal with the Federal government has added to the growing controversy and hullaballoo engulfing PKR leaders.

The MB of Selangor Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim ended the water crisis stale-mate by leaving his mark on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Federal government, in a seemingly controversial yet invisible move, catching everyone by surprise, including party leaders.

After more than 5 years of intense haggling, failed negotiations, and ruptured talks, the MOU has finally been signed. Instead of heaving a big sigh of relief more doubts and questions arise.

The MOU is an official secret. We only know from reports that the water management of the State is in exchange of building the Langat 2. Now, does this new deal involve Pakatan Rakyat’s protested concerns over the Langat 2 treatment plants and related water infrastructure, excess capacities that were not in need at this present moment? What rights will Selangorians trade away with this deal? Whats involved? Who will benefit, of is just another boost for local infrastructure contractors?

The Centre to Combat Corruption & Cronyism (C4), urges Tan Sri Khalid to take important action to clear doubts and questions by declassifying the MOU, and make public the details of the agreement between the Federal Government and Selangor. As a leader who paved the way to uphold the right to information through the FREEDOM of INFORMATION ENACTMENT, during his first term as MB of Selangor, It is imperative for him to exercise his integrity by disclosing full details of the contents of the MOU, in order that all people of Selangor will be informed and be convinced that this deal is indeed in their interest, and that the rights to enjoy clean and uninterrupted water supply is duly protected.
