When prominent politicians in Malaysia were charged for corruption, including a former Prime Minister, his deputy, and an ex-Chief Minister of Sabah, their court cases brought to public notice a longstanding occurrence in the financing of politics: the abuse of foundations.

C4 Center Special Report: Malaysia is not a "Garbage Dump": Citizens against corruption, complacency, crime, and climate crisis

This report examines the value chains of the import, transport, and processing of plastic waste in Malaysia, tracing the actors and agencies involved in regulating the value chains.  The overall aim of this study was to examine the illegality surrounding plastic recycling in Malaysia, how it occurred, and the implications on the peoples’ right to a safe, clean, healthy, and sustainable environment. 


C4 Center Brief No 1: Good Governance and the Global Plastic Waste Trade

China's ban on waste materials distrupted the global market for recyclable material, leading to an influx of waste to Souteast Asian countries. Research was carried out from November 2019 to March 2021 to examine the value chains of the import, transport, and processing of plastic waste in recycling facilities in Malaysia, and to trace the actors and agencies involved in regulating the chains. The aim of the research is to investigate the problem of illegality linked to imported olastic waste in the country.

Financial Accountability Transparency & Integrity (FACTI) Report

C4 Center, via our Founding Director Cynthia Gabriel was among the panel at  the United Nations ESCAP High-Level Panel on International Financial Accountability, Transparency and Integrity (FACTI) for Achieving the 2030 Agenda and Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific: "Towards an Ecosystem of Financial Accountability, Transparency and Integrity". She addressed on the global anti corruption challenges of tax evasion, money laundering and corruption issues. The final report, which was published on 26 Feb 2021 includes recommendations on closing gaps in the international anti-corruption framework.

The year 2020 has been trying and tough times for Malaysia, but despite the gloom and doom that had set base, C4 Center continued steadfast with its work to follow the money, enhance our investigation work, and build capacities around whistleblower protection, environmental governance and research around political donations and procurement.
