C4 Center Celebrates World Anti-Corruption Day with Social Media Campaign, Events

PETALING JAYA (Friday): C4 Center as Malaysia’s independent anti-corruption watchdog is celebrating International Anti-Corruption day tomorrow, 9 December, with two public events and a social media campaign.

“Corruption is so commonplace in Malaysia, and sometimes it’s difficult to resist saying that the entire system is rotten to the core, and to lose hope in politics. However, we want people to know that there is hope against kleptocrats and corruption, and that Malaysians are not alone in the global fight against corruption.”

– Cynthia Gabriel, C4 Center

This year’s  International Anti-Corruption Day is themed ‘United Against Corruption for  Development, Peace and Security’. According to the United Nations Development Programme, funds lost to corruption are estimated at 10 times the amount of official development assistance.

To promote awareness of Anti-Corruption efforts, C4 Center is holding two Kleptopoly events this weekend (9 December) and next weekend (16-17 December).

Kleptopoly: The Board Game is the board game designed by C4 Center inspired by the 1MDB scandal and is designed to help educate people around the issues of asset declaration in the fight against anti-corruption.

On World Anti-Corruption Day (9 December), C4 Center is holding a Kleptopoly tournament, jointly organised with Team Selangor. The winner stands to walk away with a premium Kleptopoly set containing handcrafted miniatures as well as a C4 Center goodie bag.

The tournament is 10.30am-12.30pm at at MCCHR Loyak Buruk. Registration is free and lunch is provided.

The next weekend (16-17 December), C4 Center is hosting a staged Kleptopoly competition, ‘Live Clean or Die Dirty’, between Tony Pua (MP Petaling Jaya), Ambiga Sreenivasan (former president of the Bar Council and Bersih 2.0 co-founder), Zunar Ulhaque (comic artist), and Asheeq Ali (Persatuan Mahasiswa Malaysia). See if Tony Pua, Ambiga and Zunar may be able to talk the talk, but can they walk the walk of resisting the temptation of dirty money?

The staged tournament is happening in conjunction with Art for Grabs: Landromat of Love, at 1.00-2.00pm at The School in Petaling Jaya. C4 Center with be setting up a booth with sets of Kleptopoly (premium and standard sets) for sale with a Christmas discount. The public can playtest the game with C4 Center’s staff and find out ways to get involved in the anti-corruption fight here and across the world.
